Scholarship: An
Important Part of Alpha Phi
Here at The University
of Wisconsin – Madison, one of the most highly regarded institutions
in the nation, the competition is high and the academics are challenging.
The women of Alpha
Phi have impressively established themselves as some of the strongest
scholars on campus. Alpha Phi consistently has an all-chapter GPA above
that of other sororities on campus, which itself is superior to the
GPA of all women on campus. Alpha Phi’s members truly take their
studies seriously, and their dedication is shown through their high
standing.
The women of Alpha
Phi maintain a strong academic presence throughout the Greek System
and throughout the entire campus. Many of Alpha Phi’s members
have been inducted into prestigious national honor societies, such as
the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Phi Etta Sigma Honor Society,
and Order of Omega – a national Greek honor society.
Scholarship Programs
One of our members’
favorite scholarship programs is the collection of class files. This
collection of old class notes, study guides, and even practice exams
is an excellent resource – one which many members find to be very
helpful. An on-going class list has also been compiled. The class list
is an excellent resource to consult when registering for classes; each
class an Alpha Phi has taken is listed, including comments about the
class. Therefore, it is easy to obtain helpful information and tips
about classes before even enrolling!
In addition to
the class files and class list, our chapter has implemented a "reward"
system for excellent scholarship. Each girl has a pair of smarty pants
which hang in the library. Girls receive stickers on their pants for
As, ABs, and Bs on tests and papers. At the end of the semester the
girl and pledge family with the most stickers and therefore highest
GPA for the semester will receive a gift certificate to Victoria's Secret
to purchase their own pair of smarty pants.
The Iota Chapter
of Alpha Phi is proud to introduce the Scholarship Paddle this semester.
Girls in the house have the chance to nominate a girl who has worked
hard on a paper or studied hard for a test. One girl will receive the
paddle each week and is allowed to write her name on the paddle to show
her academic excellence.
