Our House

The
Alpha Phi house, located directly on Langdon Street, is the only sorority
house on campus with the beautiful scenery of Lake Mendota in its backyard
and the ever popular Langdon street in its front yard. Our beautiful
red-brick patio extends into our property, leading right down to the
lakeside. This gorgeous space provides Phi's a place to relax, study,
and lay out in the sun on a beautiful day.

But it doesn’t
end there! Our house, built to be a mansion in downtown Madison, now
houses 37 girls each year. Although we do have some doubles and one
single President’s Room, the two floors of our bedrooms are mostly
spacious quads (2 of which have their own bathroom!). Downstairs we
have a gorgeous living room with a breathtaking view of the lake.

Almost always will
there be something going on here. Whether it be catching up on the latest
TV shows or holding a group study session, it’s the perfect comfort
spot. A winding staircase will take you right down to our kitchen and
dining area. Our breakfast cook & House Mom, Kathleen, and lunch/dinner
chef, Luis, always make us the best meals and treats! Not to mention,
that the 24/7 accessibility to the kitchen lets you grab a snack or
meal of your desire any time you wish! It’s truly like living
with all the comforts of home, but better!
Why we love it..
Every girl in
Alpha Phi can confess that living in the house is truly the experience
of a lifetime. Never again will you have the opportunity to live with
30some other girls that share a special bond with you. We strongly encourage
all members to live in for at least one year, typically with their pledge
class. Every girl walks away from the experience with tons of memories
and friendships.
Having a sister
to laugh with at an embarrassing moment, a study partner who will help
you cram before your next test, or always having a friend to watch your
favorite TV show with are all things you will gain from living in Alpha
Phi. This house has been here for generations and generations of Phi's..
why not be the next one to join in on the experience!

My Experience..
In joining Alpha
Phi, I have gotten so much more than a warm house to live in. I have
gotten friends, sisters, and memories that will last a lifetime. Every
girl in our house is from a different walk of life, yet it seems that
we all have so much in common. Growing up in Milwaukee and coming to
school in Madison, I was nervous that I wouldn’t be able to meet
anyone new. I really wanted to broaden my horizons. In joining Alpha
Phi, I have met and befriended girls from California, New York, Ohio,
Minnesota, Wisconsin, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, and Iowa, just
to name a few. No matter where my friends or I are from originally,
“home” has taken on a whole new meaning for all of us. We
go home for winter and summer vacations itching to come back to Madison
and Alpha Phi. I will always cherish and love to death my friends from
Milwaukee, but who says there isn’t room for more?
Experiencing college
and living with other girls brings closeness and friendship to a new
level. It’s remarkable how quickly I was able to trust and bond
with these other women. How quickly we were able to share our pasts
and unique personalities. Going to college for the first time can be
a very scary, intimidating thing. UW is a big place, with a lot to offer.
Alpha Phi is one of those things, and I will never regret making it
a part of my life.
Love, Rachel
